The community operates by shared decision making. There is no imposed hierarchy. Members are social activists. Order is maintained by mutual responsibility and accountability rather than by coercion.
Social Transformation
Community members learn acceptance of one another, how to resolve conflicts, how to care for one another. They rejoice in their diversity. They share tasks. They play. They cook and eat meals together. The arts and crafts are celebrated. Intellectual life is rich and varied. They create new visions for the world.
Environmental Transformation
Members form deep attachments with the natural world. They practice environmentally responsible ways of living. They imagine, design, and create sustainable ways of living that can be implemented in their immediate community and the larger world.
Economic Transformation
Simplicity is valued, as is making do with what we have, reusing, repairing. Wealth is measured by the health of our families and natural environment. The rights of ownership are shifted to the responsibilities of stewardship. Members share material possessions and participate in meaningful work. They explore ways to disengage from the monetary system.
Soul and Spirit Awakening
Starwalkers search inward to soul and reach outward to spirit. Soul is the vital, mysterious core of our individual selves, an essence unique to each person. Soul calls us toward what is most unique in us. Spirit is the great eternal mystery that permeates and animates everything in the universe and transcends all. Spirit draws us toward what is most universal and shared.
Practices in the search inward to soul include personal conferences, journal writing, dreamwork, imaging (drawing, painting, collage) and awakening quests. Each individual is encouraged to open like a flower so that its fragrance and beauty and resources are available to all.
Practices in the reaching outward to spirit include deepening awareness and presence, doing daily tasks intentionally, conversations, nature activities, awakening quests.
